Child Killed by Houthi Landmine in Yemen's Al-Hudaydah

A 12-year-old child was killed on Monday by an explosive device planted by the Houthi militia in the Al-Jarahi district of Al-Hudaydah governorate, western Yemen.

Human rights sources reported that the child, Zakaria Qaid Bazaz, died instantly when the landmine detonated at approximately 10 a.m. as he was returning to his village to check on his home.

This incident follows closely behind the Yemeni Landmine Observatory's announcement of two farmers killed by a Houthi landmine explosion in the Beit Mughari village, also in the Hais district, south of Al-Hudaydah.

The Observatory indicated that the Houthi militia's return to the Hais district and their subsequent planting of additional mines in the district and others have undermined years of efforts by engineering teams to clear the area of explosives. This poses a significant threat to civilian lives and impedes the return of residents to their homes.
