Paramedic Killed, Doctor Injured in Houthi Drone Strike on Ambulance in Taiz
A civilian ambulance driver was killed and a paramedic doctor critically injured on Tuesday when Houthi forces targeted an ambulance with a drone in the Saber district of Taiz governorate, southwestern Yemen. The ambulance was transporting a woman who had been wounded by a Houthi mortar shell that struck her home.
Local sources reported that the woman sustained a severe chest injury from the initial shelling. As the ambulance was en route to transfer her for medical treatment, it was targeted, resulting in the driver's death and the doctor's serious injuries.
The targeting of the ambulance while engaged in a humanitarian mission to rescue an injured individual represents an escalation that jeopardizes the safety of medical personnel and civilians. This incident further increases the risks faced by relief and ambulance services amidst ongoing Houthi shelling of residential areas in Taiz governorate.
In a related development, eight civilians, including three women and three children, were injured by artillery and rocket fire launched by Houthi militias on the Saina and Asayfirah neighborhoods in central Taiz city. Local sources described this attack as a massacre.
The governorate is experiencing an increase in attacks on residential areas, raising concerns about the expanding danger to civilians, including medical teams and humanitarian workers.
