Human Rights Center Issues Distress Call Over Civilian Safety in Taiz

The Taiz Human Rights Center issued an urgent distress call on Wednesday for intervention to save civilians in the southeastern areas of Taiz city, coinciding with renewed Houthi shelling that targeted an ambulance transporting wounded individuals in the Sabr Al-Maudam district. This marks the second such incident within a week.

The center called for immediate pressure to be exerted on the Houthi militia to halt indiscriminate shelling and the fire siege imposed on the areas of Kahlān, Al-Aqroḍ, Al-Rahn, and Al-ʿĀriḍah. It warned of the dangers threatening residents' lives and obstructing the evacuation of the injured and the delivery of essential supplies.

In a related development, local sources reported that artillery shelling by the Houthi militia, on the same day, targeted an ambulance in the Al-Shaqab area of Sabr Al-Maudam district while it was transporting wounded individuals. Those on board sustained injuries.

The repeated targeting of ambulances comes amid escalating concerns about the repercussions of shelling and siege on civilians in rural Taiz. The continuation of attacks threatens residents' ability to access medical services and increases the risks associated with transporting the injured to healthcare facilities.
