UN Reports Over 281,000 Displaced in Yemen Since August

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned of escalating humanitarian needs in Yemen, reporting that over 281,000 individuals have been displaced since the beginning of August. More than half of these displaced persons are located in Taiz Governorate, facing increasing difficulties in accessing humanitarian aid.

In a statement released on Wednesday, October 28, OCHA highlighted that humanitarian access has become significantly more challenging over the past three weeks. This is due to damage sustained by a crucial road connecting Taiz to southern governorates. Consequently, humanitarian workers have been compelled to utilize narrow mountain routes, resulting in a slowdown of aid delivery operations.

The office further elaborated that shelter needs remain critical, with three-quarters of the displaced population residing in locations lacking adequate shelter, clean water, and sanitation services. Over 35,000 families are still in need of shelter assistance, while more than 230,000 individuals require emergency support for water and sanitation.
