Yemen's Masam demining project announced the clearance of 2,037 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices across various regions of the country during the final week of October 2026.

The project detailed that the cleared items included 109 anti-tank mines, 33 anti-personnel mines, 1,890 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and five improvised explosive devices. Operations spanned the governorates of Abyan, Aden, Dhale, Hadramaut, Hajjah, Lahj, Marib, and Shabwah, with the districts of Mukalla and Marib recording the highest quantities of ordnance dealt with.

In the Hadramaut Governorate, the team removed 11 anti-personnel mines, four anti-tank mines, 1,076 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and one improvised explosive device from the Mukalla district. In the Marib Governorate, the Marib district saw the clearance of 12 anti-tank mines, 421 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and three improvised explosive devices.

The project noted a significant increase in mine clearance, with 6,511 devices removed since the beginning of October. The total number of mines cleared since the project's inception has reached 600,000.

Masam reiterated that Houthi militias engage in the indiscriminate planting of mines across vast areas of Yemen, posing a continuous threat to civilian lives, particularly to children, women, and the elderly.
